My anciant city

From the 11th to the 13th centuries, the country's capital was Polonnaruwa (Sinhalese – Tamil). Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, is regarded as one of the world's best preserved old cities. Polonnaruwa, around 140 kilometers from Kandy, has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its profusion of historic ruins.

The city of Polonnaruwa is most usually referred to as Sri Lanka's second ancient capital, yet it is a magnificently maintained city with rich archaeological monuments and natural beauty. Polonnaruwa, in Sri Lanka's North Central Province, features a historic city, an adjacent "old town," and a "new town" around 6 kilometers distant. The archaeological sites are situated in a compact configuration, close to one another, and tours can be easily arranged on foot or more popular explorde on bicycle .

Polonnaruwa, like Anuradhapura, features a number of Buddhist landmarks, and pilgrim tour buses can frequently be seen touring stupas and monasteries. Polonnaruwa, on the other hand, has a stunning collection of ruined palaces and courtyards, pleasure gardens, and intricate networks of bathing tanks, as well as carvings and sculptures and a great exhibition of craftsmanship. In 1982, UNESCO designated the historic city as a World Heritage Site.
